Location update after move

We notice something with location updates. A cow’s location updates automatically once she visits a device in the new area.

But when we move 5 to 10 cows at the same time, they often remain listed on the fetch list for their old location. This makes it hard for the person fetching cows, since the animals are no longer where Horizon says they should be. It also affects the TMR Feeder because we rely on accurate numbers per location.

Currently it is a lot of clicks to manually update the location Is there a smarter way to handle batch moves?

  • I haven't noticed it , but that's a great question, I would love to get an answer too!

  • We run into the same thing here when we shift a bunch of cows at once. If one cow walks through a box or a drinker in the new area, Horizon updates her right away, but when you move a whole group they don’t all hit a device immediatelyso they stay stuck on the old location list. What we do now is either push them past a device (robot, selection gate, water trough sensor, whatever picks them up fastest) or wait a bit until they all walk around. But yeah… when you move 5–10 cows at once, Horizon doesn’t always keep up, and they end up on the fetch list for the wrong section. A proper batch location change button would make life a lot easier. Something where you select the group and update all of them in one go instead of clicking through cows one by one. That would save a lot of time and make the fetch lists and TMR numbers more accurate too.

  • stranegly enough, we hardly ever wait for Horizon to auto-update locations. When we move a group, we just assume the system will lag behind a bit that’s normal when none of them have walked past a sensor yet. For us the solution has been to build the move into the workflow after shifting a group, we run them past a gate or robot anyway so everything updates in one go. hmmm does it fix everything? No. But it avoids cows sitting in the wrong section for hours.

  • i would like to know the answer to this quetsion too
