grass intake during peak summer

Hi all,

Here in the Northern hemisphere its peak summer, and that means that grass in the regenerative state. The palatability and quality has impact on dry matter intake.

What are your tips to make sure that feed intake and milk production stays on track during this period?

I would love to hear your thought on this subject!

  • Here in Wisconsin, we see the same challenge every summer. When the grass matures quickly, we balance it out with some higher-quality alfalfa haylage and keep a close eye on fiber levels. We also try to move cows more frequently through paddocks to keep them on younger, more palatable growth. It’s all about timing and making sure the ration stays consistent even when pastures change fast.
