Getting milking right starts before the cups go on. Pre-treatment with brushes on the Lely Astronaut cleans teats and stimulates milk flow, ensuring a smooth, complete, and hygienic milking process.
Watch out for bimodality – that dip in milk flow after starting milking. It’s often caused by poor stimulation or attaching the teat cups too soon. A proper lag time between stimulation and attachment helps prevent this.
What’s the sweet spot? (If you have a Lely Robot)
• For A3 & A4: Use 2x3 seconds of pre-treatment.
• For A5: Go for 2x4 seconds—the A5 connects faster and more precisely.
• Aim for at least 60–90 seconds total between first touch and first cup.
Avoid these pitfalls:
Pre-treatment time under 52 seconds? That’s too short.
3 milkings a day? You might need longer lag time.
Using settings like 1x5 or 2x2? Expect more bimodality.
Extra tips:
Set longer pre-treatment for 3-teated cows.
Check E-link settings: use 50 mm X-movement for A5 robots.
Keep your brush height & position optimized.
Better stimulation = better flow, more complete milkings, and happier cows.
