Exos 1.0 from the sixties

The present Exos is already quite known. A well working autonomous machine for mowing and loading fresh grass and for feeding it succesively to the animals in the barn. Not many people know that in the late sixties Lely developed a predecessor of the Exos which did exactly the same with the only difference that it was not working autonomously. At the Lely-Dechentreiter factory the LelyTrac LT7 was built according an idea of Cornelis van der Lely. Patented in 1967. A few were built. After the take over of the factory by Fendt, this machine was produced till1984 under the name Fendt-Agrobil. A nice piece of the LT7 which has been mowing and feeding till last year has been bought to be shown in the Lely Museum. See also the link to a youtube film. Attached is a picture of one of the patents.

  • a similar self propelled system which mows, collects and feeds grass with a cabin at the front, is still available on the market: https://youtu.be/UBzsgNTThmM This machine of Italian manufacturer Di Pietri has a similar loading system (filling the container from above) as the Exos, while the LelyTract LT7 loads from beneath like most loader wagons. The machine in the Lely museum is still fully operable, quite unique for such a complicated machine almost 60 yrs old. The LelyTrac costed in 1970 30.000DM.
