Yeah, the heat’s been tough on the cows. I let them graze early in the morning or late evening when it’s cooler, and keep them in the shade during the hottest part of the day. I’ve got some trees in the pasture, but where there’s none, I rigged up some shade tarps. Water’s the big one — I check it often to keep it clean and cool, and make sure it’s close by. I feed heavier in the evening so they’re not digesting too much in the heat. I keep an eye out for panting or drooling — if I see it, I’ll move them or run a sprinkler near the barn.
