  • Welcome Raitis! very nice to welcome you to the community, thank you for joining! I'm personally not from Denmark either, but I'm sure we have a couple of people who might be!

  • I lived in Denmark for 6 years, it was a great time, lived there and helped in my in-laws farm. My wife is Danish. While we were there we were not quite at 48 kilos, but I can tell you a bit about how things look in Denmark. The national average is closer to 10,500–11,000 kilos per cow per year, which works out around 29–31 kilos a day. Some of the top herds are doing over 12,000 kilos, and on good days the high yielders will push well over 40 kilos. To be hitting 48 kilos steady, you’re looking at very tight feed management and cows in peak form. Most of us feed a TMR based on grass and maize silage with a lot of focus on homegrown protein. Good genetics play a big role too, and we make use of sexed semen and breeding programs to keep lifting yield and health. It’s possible for a short period after calving, but to average that across the herd all year is a big challenge. If you know a farm here doing it, I’d be just as keen to learn from them as you are.
